Finding the right kind of window for your home, business, or establishment is no easy feat. There needs to be ample research or reading, inspection and canvassing of options, and questions — a lot of questions.

Here are some of the most common questions we are asked here at The Glass & Door Company by our happy customers in the Georgetown, Austin, Round Rock, Leander, Sun City Texas area.

Is there a right kind of window design for every space?

From classic to contemporary styles, all homes follow an architectural design. The best way to find out if your ideal window is perfect for your room is by looking at the overall design and theme of your home. Next, ask yourself for the purpose of the window. Is it for getting a good view of the outside? Is it for maximizing sunlight and ventilation? Or will it double as a panel door as well? Once you’ve figured out the design of your home and purpose of your window, it becomes easier to select the right kind.

What kind of glass should I be looking for?

Selecting the right kind of glass will mainly depend on your needs. There is no doubt that single-pane glass is the most affordable option, but it is not that effective in insulation and is only recommended if you live in a mild climate or outside the urban streets. Meanwhile, double-pane window glass is the safe bet as it can insulate heat and dampen outside noise. Triple-pane, on the other hand, is the most effective but it is a costly option. Still, if you plan to stay in the space for years and if you will be facing harsher climates, then it will become a worthy investment.

Should I also consider energy efficiency?

This is a big yes. Nowadays you don’t have to worry about choosing between an aesthetically sound design and energy efficiency. You can have both.
