Securing Heavy Panels for a Header-Free Bath Enclosure and Prepping Commercial Storefront Glass
August 20, 2026

Going Header-Free on Heavy Glass
On Thursday morning, we loaded up the truck and headed out to wrap up a bathroom project that called for a clean, header-free enclosure. A lot of homeowners prefer skipping the top metal header bar because it leaves the space looking completely open from floor to ceiling. However, eliminating that upper support bar means every measurement has to be dead-on. When you do not have a top metal header tying the corners together, the weight of the swinging door relies entirely on the hinge anchors and the structural stability of the adjacent fixed glass panel.
Anchoring into Solid Tile and Plumb Adjustments
We spent a good chunk of the visit leveling the curb and inspecting the wall layout. We use thick tempered glass for these open-top enclosures to prevent any flex in the panels. To secure the hinges, we drilled cleanly through the tile surface and anchored directly into the structural wood backing behind the wall.
Once the fixed panel was set square in its wall clamps and secured, we mounted the hinges and hung the door. We adjusted the bottom sweep to leave just enough clearance so it clears the tiled curb smoothly without catching, while still keeping water directed back into the shower pan.
From Custom Enclosures to Shop Work
Once the shower door was adjusted, wiped down, and operating smoothly, we packed up our leveling gear and headed back to our shop on Lakewood Drive. Jobs like this frameless shower doors Georgetown TX home remodel are a big part of what we do, but our shop stays busy with other glass work throughout the week as well.
On Thursday afternoon, we transitioned over to cutting frame extrusions and prepping commercial storefront glass assemblies for an upcoming retail shop buildout. Whether we are aligning a custom heavy glass shower door or fitting exterior commercial glass, using proper hardware and taking accurate field measurements is what keeps everything plumb and stable.
If you are planning a bathroom renovation or need heavy glass cut for a project, feel free to reach out to schedule a site measurement.
