Mid-week jobs often bring us into master bath remodels where the tile work is freshly completed and ready for final glass. Today was a classic example: a 90-degree corner enclosure featuring heavy glass paneling and a single swinging door.

Planning the Corner Geometry

When dealing with a corner layout, precision is everything. You have two glass panels meeting at a right angle—a fixed return panel and a hinged door. If either wall is slightly off plumb, or if the curb slopes unevenly, standard rectangular glass will leave uneven gaps or bind up when the door swings.

Before we cut glass for a job like this, we take laser measurements along multiple points of the tile. On this install, the return wall had a quarter-inch lean from floor to ceiling. By transferring those exact measurements to our fabricator, the glass arrived pre-cut with the precise taper needed to sit flush against the tile while keeping the top edge completely level.

Securing the Heavy Glass

For this project, we used 3/8-inch clear tempered safety glass. It provides the solid, sturdy weight homeowners expect without requiring thick metal framing.

A successful shower glass installation depends heavily on what sits behind the wall. We anchored our wall clamps directly into solid wood blocking behind the tile using stainless steel fasteners. This prevents sagging over time. Each clamp uses specialized gaskets sandwiched against the glass to cushion the grip and prevent stress points when tightened down.

Aligning the Door and Seals

The main focus with a corner frameless setup is getting the corner junction crisp. The fixed return panel holds a 90-degree glass-to-glass clamp near the top edge to stabilize the structure. We hung the main door using heavy-duty wall-mount hinges, carefully shimming the bottom curb to maintain a consistent three-sixteenths-inch reveal all the way around.

Once the hardware was torqued to spec, we applied subtle clear polycarbonate sweeps along the bottom edge and strike side. These seals keep water inside the curb without cluttering the clean visual lines of frameless shower doors in Georgetown, TX.
